Claude Duet is a new AI agent app from Anthropic, unveiled on 21 October 2026 as a research preview. Unlike a chatbot that waits for your next question, Duet watches the apps you connect, flags what needs your attention, and can send you a daily briefing. This guide explains what Claude Duet does, who can try it at the time of writing, and how you can build the AI skills behind it.

If you are new to AI, start with the free AI 101 class before you try any new app. It is live on Zoom every day and needs no coding.

What is Claude Duet?

Reuters reported that Anthropic unveiled Claude Duet on Wednesday, 21 October 2026. It is a standalone app designed for professionals and small business owners. Anthropic describes it as a research preview, so features can change while the company tests it. Duet is built on Anthropic's Opus 5.5 model.

How is Claude Duet different from a normal chatbot?

A normal chatbot answers when you ask it something. Claude Duet is designed to keep working on tasks and bring you the results. Reuters reports that it monitors your connected apps and surfaces items that need attention, rather than waiting for a prompt. Anthropic's features, as reported by TechCrunch, Reuters and its support article, include:

  • A daily briefing that highlights what most needs your attention.
  • Background work on its own cloud computer, so it can continue after you close the app.
  • Larger jobs such as scheduling meetings, building financial forecasts and building web apps, according to Reuters.
  • A Tasks tab that shows what Duet is working on and highlights tasks that need your input.

TechCrunch also notes that Anthropic says Duet is not good at errands or booking tickets. Keep that in mind if you hoped it would handle travel bookings for you.

What can Claude Duet connect to?

Reuters reports that Duet can connect to over 6,000 connectors in the Claude Marketplace, including Gmail and Slack. Anthropic's support article also names Google Calendar, Google Drive, HubSpot, QuickBooks and Calendly. You start every connection yourself, and you can disconnect any app at any time.

Duet can also make purchases through Stripe's Link wallet or Shopify's Shop Pay. Anthropic says it asks before each purchase. TechCrunch reports that Duet will not trade securities or move money between accounts, and that by default it declines requests for credit card numbers and government ID.

Who can try Claude Duet right now?

At the time of writing, access is limited. Anthropic's support article says the research preview is open to Pro and Max plan users in the US, through a waitlist. It is not yet available on Team or Enterprise plans. The app runs on iPhone and Android, and on the web at claude.ai.

During the preview, Duet is included with the Pro and Max plans at no extra cost. It still uses your plan's usage limits, and background work such as the morning brief counts toward them.

If you are reading this in India, you cannot join the research preview at the time of writing. You can still build the same core skills now, starting with a free class.

Limits to know before you sign up

Anthropic lists several limits for the research preview. You cannot choose the model, because Duet runs on Opus 5.5 and decides how much effort a job needs. You cannot watch or take over its browser. It checks your accounts at set intervals, so something urgent can arrive between checks.

Reuters reports that Anthropic acknowledges Duet can misjudge urgency. Review drafts and approval requests before you confirm them.

What this means for small businesses in India

Agents like Duet shift work from typing to reviewing. A shop owner, freelancer or small team gets the most from an agent when they can write a clear instruction, check the result, and then approve the next step. These habits apply to every AI app on the market, not only Duet.

If you want to practise with Claude itself, the Master Claude workshop is a live Zoom session on Mondays from 7 to 10 pm IST. It costs ₹99 + GST, and you set up a Claude Project that writes in your voice and connect Claude to a tool you already use.

Try this now

Copy this prompt into any AI chatbot you already use. Replace the bracketed part with your real task list.

Here is my to-do list for this week: [paste your tasks]. Sort each task into three groups: needs me today, can wait until next week, and can be handed to an assistant. For the tasks in the first group, draft a short reply or plan that I can review before I act. Do not assume anything I have not told you.

Frequently asked questions

Is Claude Duet free?

During the research preview, Anthropic says Duet is included with the Pro and Max plans at no extra cost. It still uses your plan's usage limits, so heavy use can reach them sooner. Pricing can change, so check Anthropic's support pages for the latest details.

Do I need to know how to code to use Claude Duet?

No. Anthropic says you message Duet the way you would message a person, either typed or spoken. You do need to know what you want done, and you need to review the results.

Is Claude Duet the same as Claude?

Duet runs on your Claude account, so the memory, skills and connectors you set up in Claude are available from your first message. It is a separate app that works more proactively, checking your connected accounts and working in the background.

Keep learning AI, free

Duet is a new tool, but the core skill of giving clear instructions and checking results works with every AI app. Start with the free AI 101 class, which is live on Zoom every day and covers ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini with no coding needed. When you are ready for more, pick one of the ₹99 workshops.
